I do not measure my work by policies issued. I measure it by the families I have served — and continue to serve, year after year.

Twenty-Five Years
Michael Z Mlotek - Licensed Insurance Advisor

A quarter century of considered insurance advice

I entered the insurance industry in the late 1990s, at a time when the relationship between advisor and client was still understood to be a long-term partnership rather than a transaction. The industry has changed considerably since then — comparison websites, call centers, and algorithm-driven recommendations have made insurance feel like a commodity. But I still believe that a thoughtful, human conversation about protection and planning cannot be replaced by a dropdown menu.

As an independent advisor, I maintain continuing education, errors and omissions coverage, and a professional standard of conduct that places your interests at the center of every recommendation. Unlike captive agents who represent a single carrier, I have relationships with 20+ Canadian insurance providers across life, health, disability, critical illness, long-term care, group benefits, and travel insurance. This independence means I can present you with genuine options — not simply the product my employer is incentivized to promote.

I have built my practice on the belief that insurance is not a product to be sold, but a plan to be built together — carefully, patiently, and with a clear understanding of what you are protecting.

Over twenty-five years, I have had the privilege of serving clients across every stage of life: young professionals starting families and purchasing their first term policies, established business owners structuring buy-sell agreements and key person coverage, retirees planning for long-term care and estate preservation, and newcomer families purchasing Super Visa insurance for visiting parents. Each of these conversations begins with listening — understanding not just what coverage you need, but why you need it, what you are protecting, and what peace of mind looks like for you.

My office is located in Thornhill, and I serve clients throughout the Greater Toronto Area — from Toronto and North York to Markham, Vaughan, Richmond Hill, and Mississauga. I am also licensed in British Columbia, Alberta, and Nova Scotia, which allows me to continue serving clients who relocate to those provinces. Geography does not limit our relationship.

What I offer is clarity over jargon, patience over pressure, partnership over transaction, and a lifetime relationship over a one-time sale. If that approach resonates with you, I would welcome the opportunity to begin a conversation.

Principles

What guides my work

I

Independence

Multiple carriers compared, never tied to one. Your interest is the only one that matters.

II

Experience

Twenty-five years of guidance. Thousands of policies placed. Decades of claims supported.

III

Clarity

Plain-language counsel, free of jargon and pressure. You will understand what you own.

IV

Continuity

I will be your advisor for as long as you wish. Your file does not get reassigned.

Licensed. Trusted. Independent.

True independence is not simply a credential — it is a commitment to ongoing professional development and ethical standards. I maintain continuing education on evolving insurance legislation and regulation, carry errors and omissions insurance, and hold myself to a standard of conduct that places client interests above all else. This is the standard I hold myself to, and the standard you should expect from any insurance professional.

The distinction between an independent advisor and a captive agent is significant. A captive agent represents a single insurance carrier and can only offer products from that carrier. An independent advisor like myself has contracts with multiple providers — in my case, 20+ across the Canadian market — and can present you with options from across the industry. This means that when I recommend a policy, it is because I believe it is the best fit for your situation, not because it is the only product available to me.
